Are Bees Hiding in Your Home?

Posted on July 7, 2015 · Posted in pest control, pest proofing

This summer is just getting underway and there have been several reports of swarms of honeybees in our area. A family from Wakill had about a million honey bees under the siding of the home. The bees gained access to his home from a hole in his siding. A woman in Queens NY discovered she had 40,000 honey bees under the floorboards of her bedroom!

Do you even know if you have a bee problem?

If you just see a few bees buzzing around your garden flowers, this does not indicate a problem. However, if you avoid certain areas of your yard to avoid stepping on bees or disturbing a nest, you may want to consider treating the problem before it gets worse.

One of the most damaging bees is the carpenter bee. These bees burrow into the wood of your deck or home and build a nest. Often, homeowners do not even know that the bees have been in the wood until it is too late. So, if you suspect a problem, treat it or contact a pest professional.

BTW – Bees were not harmed in the removal from the homes in Wakill and Queens. A padded vacuum was used to get the stragglers. The bees in both findings were transported to farms to recolonize. Whew!
